This projects goal was to design a physical prototype computer mouse for a persona based on my research and needs of the user.
Through conducting user interviews and developing a persona based on what was learned, the issues I was looking to solve in making a new computer mouse prototype were hand cramping, comfort, maximizing usability, and slight customization.
I was able to do this by making sure my mouse was simple and lightweight, had a shape that is comfortable for different hand sizes for long periods of time, as well as has simple customization.
A persona is a fictional character created by a designer based on research symbolizing the user and their issues. This helps understand specifically what the user needs and identify pain points to address in the solutions.
After conducting 3 interviews with people that use computer mice, I was able to understand a couple of issues.
Many overlapping issues were that people struggle with comfort during long use and find their hand cramping. Another issue was that one interviewee said that a lot of mice are too small for his hand and the round shape does not allow for comfortable use.
Some features that users suggested were having a lightweight and easy to use mouse, small but portable, customizable buttons but not too many as to overcomplicate the mouse and confuse the user, and a different shape that the usual design as it is not always ideal.
Through this, I was able to create a Persona sheet. This is my fictional user made through the research and interviews conducted.

Studying competitor products before designing your own is really important. It helps you understand what’s already out there, what works well, and what doesn’t. By looking at competitors, you can find gaps in the market where your product can stand out and meet users' needs better.
